Pork Hock in the Slow Cooker (Crock-Pot)

Recipe from our subscriber Jane Sladen

Today we’re sharing a wonderful recipe sent to us by one of our subscribers. This dish is simple, yet incredibly tasty and homestyle comforting. The big advantage is that it saves you time: the cooking principle is as easy as it gets — just put everything into the slow cooker and wait for the result.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pork hock
  • Salt and pepper
  • Your favourite herbs (thyme, rosemary, oregano – dried is fine)
  • 2–3 carrots, chopped
  • 3–4 potatoes, chopped
  • 1–2 onions, chopped
  • 2–3 bay leaves
  • 2–3 garlic cloves (optional)
  • Beer or chicken broth (enough to half-cover the hock)
  • A splash of wine (optional, but not together with beer)

Instructions:

  1. Rub the pork hock well with salt, pepper, and herbs.
  2. Place the carrots, potatoes, and onions at the bottom of the slow cooker.
  3. Put the hock on top, add bay leaves and garlic if desired.
  4. Pour in beer or chicken broth so that the meat is half covered. If using broth, you can add a splash of wine.
  5. Cover with the lid and cook on low for about 8 hours, without opening the lid.

Why you should try this recipe

  • Saves time – minimal effort, maximum result.
  • So delicious – the meat comes out tender, juicy, and flavourful.
  • Homestyle comfort – perfect for a cozy family dinner.

Serve with mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, or fresh bread to soak up the rich broth.
